Project Runway New Season & My Journey to Become a Fashion Designer

MY PERSONAL JOURNEY - TO BECOME A FASHION DESIGNER

BEGINNING WITH PROJECT RUNWAY
I am so excited - Project Runway returns for Season 16 tonight!  This is probably one of my favorite shows.  I look forward to it each fall.  Last season, my favorite designer was Laurence - because of all of her leather work. I can’t wait to find out which of the designers becomes my top pick - and if they will make it to the finale.

Probably one of the reasons I enjoy Project Runway so much is because I have always been a very creative person - I am continually envisioning designs for clothing in my head; however, I never pursued fashion design until recently. For some reason in college, I did not go into fashion - and all of my jobs since have been in non-fashion fields.  It was only until recently that I started to explore the idea of fashion design.

FOLLOWING MY DREAMS

Sometimes in life - we have to make a change to follow “our dreams”, which reminds me of this well-known designer, who started college in finance - and then transitioned to fashion.  We are all very familiar with his popular bags and designer clothes - and if he had kept with finance, we may never have known of him.  (Did you guess correctly of which designer it was? I loved finding out his story.)

I have talked a little bit about my journey into Fashion Design before, which began with coursework in Fashion Business and ended with an intensive course in Fashion Design at Parsons. You can read more about it here. In the process, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with my experience at Parsons; but, I knew I wanted to know more about fashion. After creating my own collection (a few of the pieces are shown above) as part of my course - and the positive feedback from instructors - I knew this was a path I wanted to explore; however, it did not happen immediately. There were different deviations along the way - until about a year ago, when I decided to move forward and create my own clothing line.

I’ll be honest, though - it has not been an easy or quick process; however, I have learned so much this past year. Each step of the process, I have learned something new, and have found ways to make adjustments and improve the process.  There is still so much more to learn.  I just can’t wait until the pieces I am creating are finished - so I can show everyone (and wear them)! I am really hoping to have a piece this winter.

Someday, my dream is to be as well-known as the designer I mentioned earlier, and have my designs seen by everyone!

MY TOP NEW ARRIVAL PICKS
With new arrivals for fall arriving each day here are a few picks...

This open front-swing cardigan that comes in off white and black.

This really fun balloon sleeve sweater - that comes in three different fall colors.

This cozy cardigan which I bought it in another color - and is super soft.

This v-neck sweater that comes in 3 colors and is only $20.

Summer is not over yet - and this ruffled sleeveless top is only $10.

This mini tote is in the perfect fall color (looks just like the Rebecca Minkoff one) - and is under $50.

This mixed print on this kimono is so fun - and I think it would look really cool styled.

This sleeveless utility top - comes in the perfect olive-khaki color.

This comfy boatneck/off the shoulder sweatshirt that comes in two colors.

These new arrival camo pants - you will get more wear out of them than you think - trust me!

I bought shirt dress this summer -and love it so much I am thinking about buying this one - and it is 40% off right now.

Do you every shop at a store all the time - and then one day stop shopping there - for no particular reason?  I did that with this store - and just rediscovered its fun new collections today.

I am participating in the following link-ups.
