What I have been doing while staying in?

A lot of baking, cooking, and cleaning.  I have made biscotti, chocolate lava cakes (twice!), smoothies for a snack, and a lot of great meals - I shared a few here.

What I am watching?

Old episodes of Felicity (which is on Amazon Prime right now), Call the Midwife (which just started a new season last night), and I know, cheesy, but When Calls the Heart.  I also started watching "Making the Cut" - the Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum spin-off on Project Runway.  So far - I am "meh" of my opinion of it.  I hope it gets better.

Stylish Comfy Home Outfit + Being Thankful

Happy Wednesday!

I am thankful for so many things - my health, my family, my home, being able to work from home, and so much more...  

When I start to grumble about wondering if I will ever be able to buy my favorite toilet paper again, or dish soap or oatmeal - I remind myself that I have so much to be grateful for.

I think of all the delivery people and grocery store workers that are working so hard to make sure the shelves are stocked, and we get our packages.  For them, life has only got busier and more stressful.

And, I am reminded of people that I know that are out of work - and small businesses that might not be able to weather this storm.

It really makes me - be thankful!

As the coffee mug says - start today with a grateful heart!  With everything going on, it is important to remember what we are thankful for.

I thought I would share what I have been eating and wearing - while staying inside this past week.

WHAT I AM EATING

I eat a salad pretty much every day of the week for lunch.  Currently, my favorite salads are a mix of:

- kale, leafy greens, and sometimes Brussels sprouts

- fruits (dried cranberries, cherries, and fresh blueberries)

- and nuts (sliced almonds and walnuts)

I have been using two different dressings (made from scratch):

- vinaigrette dressing: apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper

- or a power dressing: pureed carrots, fresh turmeric and ginger, miso, rice vinegar, olive oil, salt, pepper

For dinner, my husband and I have been trying out new recipes - and some old favorites.  We have had hummus (homemade - and so yummy) with chicken, rice pilaf, and homemade pita bread.  One night we made a pot roast with veggies and potatoes, and another night mole rubbed pork with a lime cabbage slaw.  We get most of recipes from Bon Appetit, Fine Cooking, NY Times, and Mark Bittman - How to Cook Everything.

What I ate last night: hummus, pita, rice pilaf, chicken

WHAT I AM WEARING

As I mentioned in this post, I still get ready each day - as if I am headed into work.  I have been wearing my favorite black jeans, this sweater (on sale for $8), this sweater, and this sweater.

I also do my hair and make up each day - with my favorite concealer (great for under eye) and lipstick, and my heat protectant for my hair - and favorite round brush.

As I have transitioned to working from home this week, the one thing that has not changed is that I get ready - and dressed for work each day.  I do my hair, put on make-up -- my mascara, lipstick, concealer -- and put on an outfit that I would typically wear to work.  It helps me feel more ready to work.

My encouragement today - is taken from a small book I picked up at successful bakery over the weekend.  It is about how to consider different possibilities...

When considering multiple opportunities, write multiple visions. Remember those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books where you, the reader, had to make choices about where the story goes next? You can do this with visioning, too! I call it “alternate endings,” and I do it frequently when I have multiple opportunities in front of me or feel that I’m at a crossroads. Giving myself the freedom to explore what the future may look like down various paths is liberating and allows me to play with a variety of possibilities.

It also helps me feel that I’ve properly investigated alternatives; a frequent pitfall of visioning for me is that sometimes the first thing I think of after I’ve practiced hot-pen (writing non-stop for 15 minutes, without editing yourself along the way) becomes anchored in my mind—I feel that’s the only way to get where I want to go. Writing a variety of options (some realistic and some deliberately “off-the-wall”) loosens up my brain and gets me thinking differently.

It’s also helpful to read multiple “realities” and identify common themes. Maybe during the multiple hot-pen sessions, I wrote about 4 different paths for a business project, but they all have a few core things in common—that’s game-changing and really helpful in finding the truly important pieces that I need to be aware of on whatever path I choose.
